Summary
Watercolour and bodycolour on paper, Allerton Church West Window by Morris, Marshall, Faulkner and Co.(Morris & Co.) (1861-1940); after William Morris (Walthamstow 1834 - Hammersmith 1896) and possibly Sir Edward Coley Burne-Jones (Birmingham 1833 - London 1898), 1875. Inscribed 'Allerton 1/2" scale Design for West window Allerton Church July 8th. 1875 The property of Morris + Co 26 Queen Sqr. Bloomsbury'. Also inscribed with faint pencil notes, mostly illegible. A stained glass window design for the West window of Allerton Church. Four lights each depicting a saint with an animal or figure behind, with a banner below each and a smaller group figure scene below with landscape background. Background of leaf design. Five quatrefoils above amongst irregular triangle and four- and five- sided lights with leaf detail. Drawn at a scale of 1/2 inch to 1 foot. The figures were likely designed by the studio of Burne-Jones; the backgrounds and foliage were designed by Morris.
