Summary
A bell hanging on the north face of the parapet of the brickwork of the 1887 tower. Small blank bell hung on the outside of the brick parapet of the main tower of the house, which was built in 1887 to the designs of Edward Ould (of Grayson and Ould) for Theodore Mander. The bell is undated and uninscribed, but it was probably cast by Charles Carr of Smethwick c.1887 – i.e. the date of this part of the building. It is 235 mm (9.25") in diameter, its note F/F# (2854.5 Hz) and weighs about 10kg (22 lbs). It is of fairly good tone, the partial tones being as follows - hum 742.5 or F#+55, prime 1489.5 or F#+11, tierce 1780 or A+19, quint 2055.5 or C#-69, and nominal 2854.5 or F#-63). It has a solid argent with a horizontal hole through it for a wrought-iron bar stock. It is hung for swing chiming from an iron bracket mounted on the north side of the tower and fitted with bar stock, iron chiming lever and clapper suspended from a cast-in crown staple. The bell is roped down through the tiled roof and intermediate floors to a corridor on the ground floor.
