Summary
A four-fold screen, British, 19th century, formed of four hinged rectangular panels with doomed tops, recovered with Morris & Co. 'Michaelmas Daisy' wallpaper, circa 1980. 'Michaelmas Daisy' was designed by John Henry Dearle (1860-1932) for Morris & Co., there have been numerous re-prints of this design by Arthur Sanderson & Sons Ltd. One of these re-prints was probably used to cover this screen.
Provenance
In 1937 Sir Geoffrey Mander and his wife Rosalie gifted Wightwick Manor, its contents and gardens to the National Trust. Sir Geoffrey and his family continued to occupy and manage Wightwick adding to the collection in collaboration with the National Trust. Sir Geoffrey died in 1962 but Lady Mander continued to live at Wightwick until her death in 1988. This screen was transferred to the National Trust on the death of Sir Geoffrey in 1962.
