Summary
A set of thirty-two billiard balls, London, circa 1911-1936, by Thurston & Co. Ltd., the set containing six natural (white) ivory balls; sixteen stained red balls; an eight stained various colours including blue, green and yellow. Together with a billiard table (1288230.1), a scoreboard (1288230.2), billiard cues (1288230.4), billiard cue racks (1288230.5 &.6).
Provenance
In 1937 Sir Geoffrey Mander and his wife Rosalie gifted Wightwick Manor, its contents and gardens to the National Trust. Sir Geoffrey and his family continued to occupy and manage Wightwick adding to the collection in collaboration with the National Trust. Sir Geoffrey died in 1962 but Lady Mander continued to live at Wightwick until her death in 1988. This billiard table and its accessories are listed in the Wightwick Manor 1937 inventory.
