Summary
A set of cane and rattan garden furniture, French, manufactured by Perret & Fils & Vibert (La Maison des Bambous), late 19th century, comprising a two-seat settee and a single chair, the settee with a high rectangular back with cane frame fitted with a rattan panel which extends down to form the seat and curves over at the front edge, the armrests supported on cane hoops, the front of the armrests extend down and are bound to the front legs with rattan strips, the legs joined by a rattan bound H-stretcher; the chair with high back with cane frame fitted with rattan panel which extends down to form the seat and curved over at the front edge, a stabilizing strut on either side at the seat curve, this strut extends down to join the front leg, on four rattan wrapped cane legs, joined by an X-stretcher.
Provenance
In 1937 Sir Geoffrey Mander and his wife Rosalie gifted Wightwick Manor, its contents and gardens to the National Trust. Sir Geoffrey and his family continued to occupy and manage Wightwick adding to the collection in collaboration with the National Trust. Sir Geoffrey died in 1962 but Lady Mander continued to live at Wightwick until her death in 1988.
