Summary
A pyrography-decorated oak child's rocking chair, British, first quarter 20th century, the long rectangular back with shaped crest, the solid sides with wings extending down to the curved armrest, the solid seat with plain frieze, the sides with curved bases and long curved rockers affixed to the sides of the base, the pokerwork decoration to all surfaces featuring leaves, flowers, hearts and bands of classical decoration.
Provenance
In 1937 Sir Geoffrey Mander and his wife Rosalie gifted Wightwick Manor, its contents and gardens to the National Trust. Sir Geoffrey and his family continued to occupy and manage Wightwick adding to the collection in collaboration with the National Trust. Sir Geoffrey died in 1962 but Lady Mander continued to live at Wightwick until her death in 1988. A 'pokerwork baby's rocking chair' is listed in the Wightwick Manor 1937 inventory.
