Summary
Watercolour, Elizabeth Bréhaut Mander (1916 - 2005), as a small child, by Elinor M. Barnard (b.London 1872), signed and dated "Elinor M Barnard '19". This later portrait is quite different to those of Mavis and Mervyn. The pose, full length, wearing white dress and holding a balloon, leaning on a table, is informal, but the figure fills most of the space. There is neither a recognisable setting nor a fully coloured background: the technique is much lighter, with large areas of paper left showing. It appears, unfortunately, to be considerably faded. Elizabeth Mander (1916 - 2005) was the youngest child of Geoffrey Mander and his first wife Rosalind Florence Caverhill. There are portraits of her aged about 16 by George Watson (WIG/ P/ 15) and aged about 19 by G. Birkbeck (WIG/ D/ ?).
