Summary
Watercolour on paper, View of Snowdonia by Alfred William Hunt (Liverpool 1830 - London 1896), signed "A W Hunt", date unknown. A watercolour of a mountainous landscape in Wales, with rocks in the foreground and figure to right, looking over to lakes in the distance. Hunt's watercolours combined his admiration for Turner with Pre-Raphaelite detail, and not surprisingly therefore were much praised by Ruskin. He painted scenes in the Thames valley, the Lake District and Scotland, France and Switzerland, but Whitby and North Wales were particular favourites, as in this example.
