Summary
Pastel on paper (paper enlarged at the bottom), Head of a Young Woman by Dante Gabriel Rossetti (London 1828 - Birchington 1882), circa 1870. A portrait of young woman looking to left, eyes cast down, with red hair and wearing a white dress. This is one of the very large number of sensual portraits of beautiful women characteristic of Rossetti's later work (see also the portrait of Maria Zambaco WIG/ D/ 64). The woman has not been identified.

Purchased by Sir Geoffrey Mander, Sotheby's 2 July 1958, lot 23; transferred to the National Trust on the death of Sir Geoffrey Le Mesurier Mander (1882-1962)
