Summary
Pen and ink drawing on pink paper and pen and ink drawing on blue paper, Two Sheets of Sketches: Bird sitting on a Perch and Roman Standards by Sir Edward John Poynter, PRA (Paris 1836 – London 1919), 1890s. drawn on pink paper; the second, sketches of an eagle; an owl; Roman banners and lettering on blue paper. These studies are thought to be doodles made during Royal Academy meetings. Poynter's taste for classical subjects and scenes of Greek and Roman life is obviously reflected in his initials depicted as a Roman standard.

Charles Moody; by descent to his niece Mrs. F.E. Liversidge; Sotheby 8 March 1967, part of lot 42 together with Sketches of peacocks, a woman's head, a castle etc. (WIG/ D/ 47) and others; bought by Ian Robertson, £35 the lot (he lot was shared between Lady Mander and the Ashmolean Museum); transferred to the National Trust on the death of Rosalie Glynn Grylls, Lady Mander (1905 - 1988)
