Summary
Pen and ink drawing on pink paper & pen and drawing ink on blue paper, Two Sheets of Sketches of Birds, Pattern Designs, Female Haed and a Landscape with a Castle by Sir Edward John Poynter, PRA (Paris 1836 – London 1919), probably 1890s. These studies are thought to be doodles made during Royal Academy meetings. The pink sheet includes an Chinese figure, a sketch of a hanging and pattern design. The blue sheet has as well as the castle scene and some arithmetic a number of names: "Russell Lowell & Stanfield, Sir Chas Warren, Goldwin Smith, Sir Henry Mauie, Edwin Arnold, Samuelson".

Charles Moody; by descent to his niece Mrs. F.E. Liversidge; Sotheby 8 March 1967, part of lot 42 (together with sketches of a parrot, Roman standards etc. and others); bought by Ian Robertson, £35; the lot was shared between Lady Mander and the Ashmolean Museum; transferred to the National Trust on the death of Rosalie Glynn Grylls, Lady Mander (1905 - 1988)
