Summary
Watercolour on paper, Mavis Flora Rosalind Mander (1908 - 1953), as a child by Elinor M. Barnard (b.London 1872), initialled and dated 'EB 12'. Mavis Mander (1908-1953) was the eldest child of Geoffrey Mander and his first wife Rosalind Florence Caverhill. She is seated, wearing party dress with blue sash tied in large bow. This is the most formal of Barnard's portraits of Geoffrey and Rosalind Manders' children. The pose is quite traditional and static, three-quarter length against an entirely plain coloured background without furniture or objects, filling almost the whole space. It is quite broadly treated, predominantly in tones of blue (although probably somewhat faded).
