Summary
A kingwood, parquetry and gilt metal mounted cylinder bureau, Paris, circa 1880, with crossbanding in partridge wood and purpleheart, the upper section with a white marble top and pierced three-quarter gallery above three small drawers with pineapple handles, the floral trellis pattern lid with fruiting cornucopiae handles and enclosing a pull-out leather writing surface with an arrangement of six drawers, each with lion mask handles, the arched frieze with one long drawer flanked by two small drawers on one side and one deep drawer with dummy fronts on the other side, further pull-out leather-lined slides to each side, standing on stop-fluted tapering legs headed with ribbon-tied swags and terminating in sabots, the reverse also veneered.
