Summary
A pair of original Morris and Co curtains, Yare print. Dark blue background with flowers and white leaves.TThe Yare curtains may have been used at the window of the servant’s landing at Shaw’s Corner as the size corresponds (NT 1275430.1-2); designed by J.H. Dearle after 1892 (Parry, William Morris Textiles, 253, no.85). One of the curtains has a late Morris & Co. mark on the selvedge, which dates the textile to post-1917.
Provenance
The Shaw Collection. The house and contents were bequeathed to the National Trust by George Bernard Shaw in 1950, together with Shaw's photographic archive.
