Summary
Marble sculpture of a crab by Sigismund De Strobl (1884-1975), circa 1932. The crab holds a shell with its left claw. Oblong base with facetted corners. Bernard Shaw first met the Hungarian sculptor Sigismund De Strobl at the Malvern Theatre Festival in 1932, and sat for a bust at this time which was subsequently carved in marble. Strobl also carved Shaw’s hand in marble in 1932, so it is probable that this sculpture of a crab dates from this period.

The Shaw Collection. The house and contents were bequeathed to the National Trust by George Bernard Shaw in 1950, together with Shaw's photographic archive.
