Shaw is known to have purchased watercolours by Goodman from solo exhibitions held at the Leicester Galleries in January 1905 and June 1906.
Summary
Watercolour on paper, Town Square by Robert Gwelo Goodman (South Africa 1871-1939), signed, off centre left, in red watercolour paint: R G Goodman. A crowd of people gather round three ridden elephants. Behind is a tall pedimented archway flanked by a smaller arch and a plain entrance. To the left is a tall building in shadow with a columned portico.
