Transferred to the National Trust with Shugborough’s park and contents of the state rooms, in part-payment of death-duties to the Treasury, following the death of Thomas, 4th Earl of Lichfield (1883 - 1960)
Marks and inscriptions
Charles Davis, Huntsman to the Royal Buckhounds, born 1788, died 1867. He was a tall good looking man, height 6'1'. See Ld.Ribblesdales book 'The Queen's Hounds' See also the engraving of him and the hounds (in Smoking Room) with key of hounds-drawn by his brother and during the time when my Grandfather was Master of the Buckhounds.I lent a lot of Davis's letters to my Grandfather...burnt by a fire...(written on back)
