Summary
Dress. Woman's Tea gown in silver and white damask in a small design of floral sprigs and bows. Inspired by 18th century fashion for sack-back gowns. Boned bodice with centre front panel of gathered silk crepeline and lace as used on the front panel of the skirt. High stand collar in silk with a wide collar of bands of lace and ruched crepeline and a crepeline bow at the centre back neck. Elbow length sleeves ruched with ruched crepeline and gathered lace cuffs. Hem facing in cream taffeta as the underskirt. Card label attached stating: 'Silver brocaded white satin Tea-gown made by Paquin of Dover Street. For wedding trousseau of Miss Fraser (Mrs W R Bankes) in July 1897.' With petticoat, see KLA/T/98.2.

Label written by Mrs R.J. Bankes; Silver brocaded White Satin teagown made by Paquin of Dover St. for wedding trousseau Miss Fraser. While unpacking the dresses in 1989 a spare label was found not attached to any dress, also written by Mrs R.J. Bankes; Teagown of trousseau made by Paquin of Dover St. for Miss Fraser nee Bankes, July 1897. It is now packed in this box. Comment; Miss Fraser is the later Mrs Walter Ralph Bankes.
