Summary
One of a pair of Biancone di Bassano marble candelabras, one is wreathed with olive, sacred to Minerva the goddess of learning, the other is wreathed with myrtle, sacred to Venus the goddess of love. In the base of the latter is a medallion of Venus. The medallion of Minerva, in the base of the first, was taken from an impression of a gem by Nathaniel Marchant in the Library.
