An openwork Lorandini stove in Carrara marble, its centre inset with a Marochetti bronze medallion based on Jean Goujon’s medallions over the entrance to the Hotel Carnavalet, Paris. Medallion shows two putti supporting the Bankes coat-of-arms. Two further small medallions on the sides.

Summary
Radiator cover - Open-work stove in Carrara marble (radiator cover), with rounded rectangular top. The front is pierced with dolphins, shells and tridents. The centre is inset with a bronze medallion showing relief of putti holding a coat-of-arms. Two further small medallions (lion's heads) on the sides done from several moulds. Ducal Coronet?? One of a pair, for the other see KLA/SC/7.2. The insets are based on Jean Goujon's medallion over the entrance to the Hotel Carnavalet in Paris.
Provenance
Commissioned by William Bankes from Pietro Lorandini in June 1850. The bronze inset centres were ordered from Baron Carlo Marochetti (1805-1867) in October 1853 when the sculptor visited Bankes in Paris with 'his two most beautiful daguerreotypes' for them.
