Summary
An ebonised beech inlaid mahogany, partridge wood and silk lined teapoy and games table, English or possibly Irish, circa 1810. The hinged top with canted corners and inlaid with a chess board, opening to reveal a fitted interior of a pair of partridgewood and holly strung lidded tea containers and two recesses for mixing bowls, now missing, one octagonal and one circular. The body lined on the outside with pleated silk and raised on fine twist turned twin end supports and cheval feet joined by a conforming stretcher, brass handles to the sides and brass castors.
Provenance
Bequest of the estates of Corfe Castle and Kingston Lacy made to the National Trust by Henry John Ralph Bankes (1902-1981). NT ownership commenced from 19th August 1982.
