Summary
One of a pair of solid ebony and cane day beds, Anglo-Indian, probably Ceylon, mid 19th century. Each with twin scrolled sides boldly carved with scrolls and floral decoration centred by a stylized flower head medallion and continuing to a reeded moulded seat frame. With caned seat panels and loose textile cushions raised on scroll and floral carved legs. For a near identical design of sofa see (NT1254558) also in the Saloon at Kingston Lacy.
Provenance
Bequest of the estates of Corfe Castle and Kingston Lacy made to the National Trust by Henry John Ralph Bankes (1902-1981). NT ownership commenced from 19th August 1982.
