Summary
Hand coloured architectural pencil drawing of the full ceiling in the Saloon of the Bussola in the Palazzo Ducale in Venice by Francesco Vason. A quarter of the drawing is filled with design and coloured. The paper is watermarked 'J WHATMAN 1846'.
Marks and inscriptions
Ceiling of the Sala della Bussola in the Ducal Palace at Venice. The compartments are by Paul Veronese and doubtless the whole decorative coloring was executed under his direction. The architectural distribution is ascribable to Sanvovino. The room measured 32' 6 ½ by 24' 5 1/4 and in height 16' 10 7/8 from the floor line to the face of the plateband onon which the geloshe is painted (footnote in ink in William Bankes' hand)
