Summary
Print, engraving, The Holy Family with the Infant John the Baptist and Saints Justina, Francis and Jerome (after Paolo Veronese) by Joseph (Giuseppe) Wagner (1706 - 1786). This is an engraved print of the sacristy altarpiece from San Zaccaria, commissioned by Francesco Bonaldi to commemorate the recent deaths of two of his relatives, his brother Girolamo and infant son Giovanni which is now in the Accademia in Venice. Inscribed: 'Archtypum exstat in Sacrario Monialium S.Zaccherie' showing a monument, by G. Wagner from a painting by Paulus Cagliary.'
Marks and inscriptions
Bartolozzi was Wagner's scholar and had a hand in most of the works that bear his name. I saw many of Bart's early works in a shop in [...] chiefly light and indifferent, from very bad little landscape and season Painters in the French Style. Filipart who worked under the [.......] master seems to have been then the better Engraver he has since applied to painting. This print is not [.....]. (footnote in ink Henry Bankes the Younger's or William Bankes' hand)
