Summary
Print, engraving, The Ribchester Helmet - Roman (late 1st Century - early 2nd century) by James Basire the elder (London 1730 – London 1802). Copper alloy cavalry helmet with face-mask visor. Decorated with a scene of a skirmish between infantry and cavalry. Fittings for a crest-box and a pair of trailing streamers survive on the head-piece. The original helmet is in the collection of the British Museum. From a drawing by A. Tendi. Pl III. Vol IV.
