Summary
Print, engraving, Hugenots on St Bartholomew's Day (after Sir John Everett Millais RA) by Thomas Oldham Barlow (Oldham 1824 - London 1889). A Hugenot young man is shown with his sweetheart refusing to wear the white scarf; the emblem of the Catholics, which would save him from St Bartholomew's Massacre, August 24, 1572. He bravely with-stands the pleadings of his sweetheart and stands fast to his Protestant faith, embracing his love for what will, no doubt, be the last time. In a arched gilt mount within a gilt frame.
