Full description
Ronald Greville had an operation for Cancer of the Larynx on 31st March 1908. This letter was written on Friday 3rd April and addressed to his wife, Margaret Greville. Springfield, Oakham was the home of Lord and Lady Castlereagh who became the Marquis and Marchioness of Londonderry in 1915. Oakfield was sold in 1923 Written on headed writing paper from Springfield, Oakham on Friday (3rd April 1908).My Darling, Gwenfra has just written to me and I have seen in the papers that your Mr Ronnie has had an operation. I am so sorry for you must be so worried but I trust he will soon be well. I am sorry, I am here with the Castlereaghs. Till Come Monday and I trust to find him better. Yrs truly Florence. A letter of condolence was written soon after this: 1248654 Florence and her husband, Hwfa, were frequent guests at Polesden Lacey, and before at Reigate Priory. Being part of the Marlborough House Set they were with Edward VII on a visit to Polesden in 1907 and were part of the first royal weekend party in 1908.
