A Letter of Condolence from Edward Stuart Wortley, 1857 - 1934
Full description
Captain The Hon Ronald Fulke Greville died on 5th April from pneumonia following an operation on 31st March for cancer of the larynx. This letter was sent to his widow, Margaret Greville. Written on headed writing paper: The Farm, Highcliffe, Hampshire dated 7th April 1908 Dear Mrs Ronnie, I cannot find words to express to you my feelings of grief and sympathy with you in the terribly sudden irreparable loss which you have suffered It is a tragedy for you which is indeed hard to bear - there are no words that I can think of to bring you comfort: except the assurance of the admiration of all his friends of his pluck and determination to face the inevitable: whatever the result. It must be a consolation to you - and I trust it is to know how much all his friends loved him and how deep is their sympathy with you - and may I add, with your father who was so fond of him. I beg of you to accept from me these few lines of genuine and heartfelt sympathy - and my earnest hope that you might be able your great grief softened by the knowledge that it is shared by all his friends. Yours very sincerely Edward Stuart Wortley The friendship link between Edward and Ronald Greville would have been hunting and racing.
