Summary

Letter of Condolence from Florence Hwfa Williams, née Farquharson, 1856 - 1945. Written on headed writing paper from Coombe Springs, Kingston Hill, Surrey.

Full description

Captain The Hon Ronald Fulke Greville died on 5th April from pneumonia following an operation on 31st March for cancer of the larynx. This letter was sent to his widow, Margaret Greville. Florence and her husband, Hwfa, were good friends of Ronald and Margaret Greville. They were part of the Marlborough House set and visited Polesden from Reigate Priory with Edward VII in 1907 and again with the royal party in 1908. Photographs of these events are in the Collection. No date but must be April 1908. A follow up letter from NT 1248663 . My Darling, Alas words are useless in such sorrow which you are undergoing. It is too too terrible for you & is I can scarcely realize its true what must it be for you. He was so full of life and happiness when we fetched him and drove him to the Grand Military ( Gold Cup, Sandown, 7th March) and came back to tea afterwards and chatting Hwfa as usual during the day. Thing you can be thankful for is that he was spared some suffering since he had such a happy little life& was feeling so happy when we drove down to Sandown from London together. I cannot bear to think of you darling and would so like to be of help to you to write and do anything for you or come with your friends if I could help. Yesterday I came from the country but you were away. Telephone if I could do anything darling, you are so brave and have always been. But it makes Hwfa and me miserable to think of you being so unhappy and alone Yr Trly, Florence
