Summary
A Letter of Condolence from George Henry Robert Child Villiers, 8th Earl of Jersey, 1873 - 1923
Full description
Captain The Hon Ronald Fulke Greville died on 5th April from pneumonia following an operation on 31st March for cancer of the larynx. This letter was sent to his widow, Margaret Greville. Written on headed writing paper. Osterley Park, Isleworth April 17th 1908 written in ink. Dear Mrs Greville I did not write before as I know how many letters and messages of sympathy you must have received these last few days. But I feel that I should now like to write and offer my sincerest condolences in your sad loss. I cannot tell you how grieved and shocked I was when I had the sad news. It seems so terribly sudden that one can hardly realize it. When one thinks how much one will miss him as a personal friend, I can more realize what his loss must mean to you, specially having spent so many pleasant Sundays with you both at Reigate and seen what a happy home you had. I can only hope that it may be some slight consolation to you to know, as of course you do know, how genuinely his loss is lamented by all who knew him. Again assuring you of my deepest sympathy Believe me, Yours sincerely Villiers Villiers was a British peer and Conservative politician. He and his wife visited Polesden Lacey frequently.
