Summary
A professional photograph of the kitchen at Polesden Lacey.
Full description
The kitchen is very tidy with equipment displayed in the fore ground. The chef stands to the fore and three female staff to the back of the room. The second photograph shows the chef on the far left and four female members of staff in uniform. Ethel Francis Thorpe is second from the right, aged about 20 years old. We know that she was working at Polesden Lacey in 1909. The Still Room has a thick work table and lots of equipment on the table and on the shelves behind. Both rooms look functional. The two photographs were given to Polesden by John Alan and Joyce de Courcy. John's mother Ethel Francis Thorpe , 1888 - 1983, is the 2nd from the right in the Still Room photograph. Ethel married William Marsland de Courcy in 1921 when she was 32 years old.
