The Duke of York and Duchess of York are standing half way up the steps that lead to the croquet lawn. They appear to be having a relaxed conversation. They are warmly dressed. The Duke is wearing a tweed jacket and trousers, shirt, striped tie and flat cap. The Duchess is wearing a trimmed woollen skirt and jacket, a rounded necked top and a cloche hat. She has a single rope of pearls around her neck. It was a prearranged photoshoot for the press.
