Full description
Beatrice Diana wearing a dark dress with a shaped neckline with two diamond and pearl clips.Inscribed and dated: To Mrs Ronnie, with all my love + many thanks from your Diana 14.2.35'. Diana was the daughter of Sir Austen and Ivy Chamberlain, who were great friends of Margaret Greville. She had spent family Christmas at Polesden Lacey since 1928, and was a guest at Polesden Lacey and Charles St. many times. Diana married Colonel Arthur 'Terence' Maxwell on 21 February 1935 at St Stephen's Chapel, Westminster. As this photograph is dated 14th February 1935, a week before, perhaps the 'many thanks' relates to a wedding gift. Terence and Diana visited Polesden Lacey and Charles St. often until 1938 and 1940 respectively.
