Pol Placon is shown in profile. He is bare headed and wearing a jacket and white shirt. Pol was a French bass singer. he was one of the most acclaimed operatic singer of the 1880s, 1890s and the early 20th century. Inscribed to Mrs McEwan in French and signed: 'A Madame Mac Ewan honnmage de son très dévoué Pol Plançon 1893' Helen McEwan was the mother of Margaret Anderson, later Hon Mrs Ronald Greville, and the wife of William McEwan Margaret's father.
