Full description
James Pretsell and William McEwan instigated a scheme for evening classes at the Herriot-Watt College, Edinburgh. The Scheme provided evening education for men and women. The students were identified by their schools or employers. They attended classes after work, kept out of trouble and improved their prospects; thus their families benefitted from a higher living standard. William McEwan provided financial backing . James Pretsell organised the curriculum and ran the project.
