Full description
This image is part of the 'Fores's Coaching Recollections' series. A stage coach stops at a station during the night and the horses are being changed by the station team. A man in livery is holding a lamp into the carriage, whilst the luggage on top is covered by a tarpaulin. The driver and guard are seated on top wrapped up against the chill night air. Many of Henderson's works were bought by Messrs Fores of Piccadilly. They owned this image and published it for many years. Charles Cooper Henderson's painting is now part of the Government Art Collection; it was presented to them by Fores Ltd. in March 1979.
