Summary
Marble, The Rt Hon. William McEwan MP (1827-1913) by John Hutchison (Edinburgh 1833 - Edinburgh 1910), signed and dated 1885. A bust of a bearded man, posed frontally, wearing contemporary dress. Signed J. HUTCHISON/ R.S.A./ EDNr 1885. On a rectangular socle and cylindrical black marble plinth. Hutchison exhibited busts of McEwan at the Royal Scottish Academy in 1886 (no. 823) and 1897 (no. 203).
Provenance
The bequest of Margaret (Anderson) McEwan, The Hon. Mrs Ronald - later Dame Margaret - Henry Fulke Greville, DBE (1863-1942) from probate records linked with the donation of the property to the National Trust in 1943. This item found on the record for Polesden Lacey Entrance Hall, page 1.
