Princess Alexandra and Prince Arthur visited Polesden Lacey and 16 Charles Street many times between 1924-1933. Arthur sent Margaret Greville several Christmas cards with photographs of himself in uniform and of Alexandra and their son at Christmas. Alexandra Victoria Alberta Edwina Louise was the daughter of Alexander Duff, 1st Duke of Fife and Princess Louise of Wales, the eldest daughter of Edward VII. In 1913 Princess Alexandra married Prince Arthur of Connaught. They had a son, Alastair, in 1914. Alexandra trained as a nurse and worked throughout WW1 and WW2. She also supported her husband whilst he was Governor General in South Africa. Alastair Arthur was styled by the courtesy title of Earl of Macduff in 1917 until he succeeded, in 1942, as 2nd Duke of Connaught and Strathearn, on the death of his grandfather. He attended the Royal Military School, Sandhurst and became an officer in the Royal Scott’s Greys. He died in 1943.
