A studio portrait of Lady Allington.
Full description
Lady Allington is bear headed and stands, with both arms resting on a 'stone' plinth that stands on a tiled floor. She is wearing long flowing robes which are gathered around her on the floor. Her sleeves are also full and hand down the side of the plinth. The material of the dress appears light, there is a velvet shawl around her shoulders and tucked between to tops of her arms. She is looking directly at the camera. (The National Portrait Gallery has a close up of this photograph). Signed, Lady Alington the photograph is mounted in a gilt wood and plaster frame. Lady Feodorowna visited Polesden Lacey in 1909 and 1914. Lady Feodorowna Yorke was born in 1864 the daughter of Charles Philip Yorke, 5th Earl of Hardwicke. ‘Feo’ married Humphrey Napier Sturt, 2nd Baron Alington of Crichel, on 25 June 1883.
