Full description
Alice is looking directly at the camera. She is wearing a dark hat with a brooch and bow attached it appears to be covered in gauze. She has on pearl earrings and a pearl necklace. The bodice of her dress is low cut, heart-shaped and trimmed with lace. There is a bow-shaped jewel with a pearl drop just below her neckline. Her sleeves are pierced and the dress seems to be sequined. Alice Frederica was the daughter of Admiral Sir W Edmondstone 4th Baronet born at Dunreath Castle. She married George Keppel in 1891. In 1898 she became the mistress of the Prince of Wales, a position she retained after his accession to the throne as Edward VII. She was known as ‘La Favourita’. 'Freddie' became a good friend of Ronald and Margaret Greville often visiting Polesden Lacey and holidaying together in Holland.
