Summary
A studio portrait of photograph of Lady Savile, who is standing, her right arm raised and resting on a pillar. She is wearing a long silky embossed skirt, a fitted bodice with dropped shouder straps fringed with gauze. Her hair is up and orimented, and she wears a chunky bracelet on her left wrist. Signed:Violet. The only daughter of Charles Francis Webster-Wedderburn, Violet married John Savile (Savile-Lumley), the future 2nd Baron Savile of Rufford Abbey, Ollerton, Northamptonshire, in 1894. They had no children. Violet and her husband were guests of Margaret Greville at Polesden Lacey between 1908 - 1912. The Grevilles are pictured in this collection at Rufford Abbey, the country estate of the Saviles. Their London home was 12, Charles Street very close to the Grevilles at 11, Charles Street at that time. It was Violet and her husband who encouraged Margaret back into public life after the death of her husband, Ronald. Margaret greatly miss Violet when she died.
