Full description

In June 1909 Mrs Greville’s gave her first house party since the death of her husband, Ronnie, in 1908. The guest of honour was King Edward VII. Seated to his immediate left sits his past mistress, Georgina, Countess of Dudley, her son John Ward stands behind her. Alice Keppel, his present mistress, her husband, George Keppel and her daughter, Sonia are all present. The Portuguese and Austrian ambassadors, Marquess de Soveral and Count Albert Mensdorff, respectively are there as part of the Marlborough House Set, which now accepts Margaret Greville in her own right. Now an active member of the group as her period of mourning is considered over. The photograph was taken on the South lawn outside the Gold Room.
