Full description
Paget was a frequent guest of Margaret Greville's at Polesden Lacey. As a 'page of honour' to Queen Victoria, Arthur Paget was entitled to a free Guard’s commission and joined the Scots Fusilier in 1869. He was part of the expedition that destroyed the Ashanti capital of Kumasi in 1873 and distinguished himself in South Africa, rising to the rank of Major-General in 1900. In 1912 he became Commander in Chief of Ireland and became a General in 1913.
