Full description
In 1888 Eclipse was a prominent sable and white Rough Collie, recognised as the first official Rough Collie champion by the Kennel Club. He was a successful show dog, winning the kennel Club Challenge Certificate at numerous events between 1884-1888. Initially owned by James Bissell, he was later owned by Mr Krehl of London. Eclipse was known for only siring sable and white puppies and being factored 'pure' for sable. The original painting was signed and dated 1887. It was auctioned at Bonhams L.A. in 2025; A charcoal sketch, was signed and dated 1887, was auctioned in Doyle, New York in 2009.
