Print, Luiz de Soveral, 1st Marquez de Soveral (1850-1922), Portuguese Ambassador, by Sir Max Beerbohm (London 1872 - Rapallo 1956). One of a set of four Vanity Fair cartoons. Political cartoon of the Marques de Soveral (1851-1922) who was the Portugese Ambassador to Britain during the 1890s. The cartoon is by Sir Henry Maximilian ‘Max’ Beerbohm (1872-1956), essayist, parodist and caricaturist, best known for his 1911 novel Zuleika Dobson. Soveral was a nobleman, courtier, diplomat and a great friend of King Edward VII.
