Full description
'The Empty Saddle' was created in 1879. A narrative painting of a dramatic winter scene. A man in uniform on horseback leads a riderless, but saddled horse to the front of a grand building, thought to be Burford Priory, Oxfordshire. A small dog is howling; on the balcony a woman faints into another's arms; from a doorway by three other ladies watch anxiously and a small boy looks down at the scene. The original painting was auctioned in 2023.
