The Dutch banker, Hennry Bischoffsheim, sits at home in a comfortable armchair with a book on his knees. He is looking directly at the artist and has a gentle smile on his face. At the top is written: To Mrs Bischoffsheim with many grateful rememberences Hubert van Herkomer. 1908 Henry was the founder of Deutshe Bank, Paribas and Société Génerale. He took over the Bischoffsheim, Goldschmidt & Cie bank in London from his father. Henry died on 11th March 1908 the same year this mezzotint was given to his wife, Clarissa.
