Summary
A coloured mezzotint of the Countess after G F Watts.
Full description
Lady Emily is standing on the veranda of Marston House, her Somerset estate. She is wearing a dark velvet dress with foaming lace cuffs. At 32 years of age she had given birth to her first son, Charles, in 1861, after three daughters. This portrait was commissioned around 1860, perhaps it celebrated the birth of an heir. Emily was to have another son and two more daughters.
