Full description
The original painting is owned by the Birmingham Museum Trust. The mezzotint does not show the full image, there is a portfolio on John's lap. The boys sit closely together outdoors. The dog is looking at them devotedly. John, the eldest, looks ahead. His brother, Henry, is looking at him with admiration; one hand is on John's shoulder and the other on the dog's head.
