A mezzotint of a self portrait of Sir Henry Raeburn, by William Walker.
Full description
The actual self portrait was purchased in 1905 and now hangs in the National Gallery of Scotland. Polesden Lacey has three pieces of Raeburn's work. Raeburn looks directly at the viewer; he is bare-headed, wearing a dark jacket, his shirt, the high neck of which can just be seen, appears quite full. He has one hand holding his chin, the other his elbow. A great deal of information is printed below the picture.
Provenance
The bequest of Margaret (Anderson) McEwan, The Hon. Mrs Ronald - later Dame Margaret - Henry Fulke Greville, DBE (1863-1942) from probate records linked with the donation of the property to the National Trust in 1943. This item found on the record for Polesden Lacey pictures, drawings etc., Study Mezzotints, page 127.
